  • The Best Dividend Growers, Part 23: Union Pacific [View article]
Thanks for the article, Stan. I've missed your past ones but plan on going back through them.

    A couple of notes...

Since KSU started dividends in 2012 they are ranked 2nd in growth. UNP is 1st, KSU is 2nd, CSX is 3rd, and NSC is 4th. KSU also has rail lines through Mexico and in Panama.

Payout ratios are good across the board. Lowest to highest, we have KSU at 24%, UNP at 33%, CSX at 34%, and NSC at 34%.

I don't think there is a bad one in the bunch. I plan on owning at least three of the four. Currently long CSX and KSU, with plans on picking up some UNP when my dry powder and its value pricing line up.

  • Oracle - Long Awaited MICROS Deal Finally Materializes [View article]
Picked some up @ 39.99, and would probably look at more if it decided to drop into the 37s.

I also think the Micros deal is a very nice addition that will help move ORCL forward.

  • Philip Morris International Is Where The Fairly Valued Dividends Are Hiding [View article]
BTI might be a little better buy just now. But I agree, now may not be the best time for either. A small pullback and I'd probably look hard at adding shares of both.

    Long BTI, PM, RAI.

  • The Rookie Retirement Portfolio: Am I Diversified? [View article]
Starting through a very low fee brokerage firm should allow you to split between your two top matching picks in each sector. Your example is either, KO or PEP, but you could do a split and get 1/2 KO and 1/2 PEP. In essence you'd look something like...

    First set:
    KO - $250.00
    PEP - $250.00
    Second set:
    WEC - $250.00
    WTR - $250.00
    Third set:
    BAX - $250.00
    STJ - $250.00
    Fourth set:
    TXN - $250.00
    QCOM - $250.00
    Fifth set:
    WPC - $250.00
    O - $250.00

The same process really. All it does is add a small layer of diversity within each sector you are starting out in.

BTW, nice article. This really helps to solidify a path I'm hoping to help my niece start down, and later on my two. I've started a savings and investment how to and goals for them, and this will help to fine tune and finish.

  • I Have No Fear Of A Market Crash Or A Significant Correction, Here's Why: Part 1 [View article]
    Chuck, well done.

Several are on my watch list, with a few of those on my active shopping list. Like most, just waiting on better entry prices, but if they hit before others on my list, I'll own: GWW, SHW, HRL, VFC...SIAL is on my watch list but their total return numbers are currently too low.
