  • Microsoft And The 2014 Hybrid Cloud Showdown  [View article]
For an application developed under SOA architecture, it really does not matter where a service component of an application or applications reside, in a public cloud or in a private cloud with data center, as long as a robust and secure network links are in place. Conceptually, the world-wide communication network along with servers, data centers, etc. is the computer in a general sense. Hence, hybrid cloud will bean inevitable architecture or environment for applications to run. It makes sense for smaller companies to reply on public cloud to reduce operational costs in managing data center. Companies with larger capitalization can utilize hybrid cloud flexibly to achieve maximum efficiency.

Yes, hybrid cloud is the wave of the future. It will be the natural evolution as SOA architecture becomes number one choice in application architecture.

  • The next version of Surface RT (MSFT) will rely on both Qualcomm (QCOM) and Nvidia (NVDA) CPUs, Bloomberg reports. Though details are scant, one likely possibility is that Nvidia (the sole supplier for the first-gen RT) will power Wi-Fi-only models, and Qualcomm will power 3G/4G-capable models. The report comes as all signs indicate Qualcomm is set to displace Nvidia as the Nexus 7's CPU supplier. Meanwhile, Microsoft is selling the 32GB version of RT for just $199 (a 60% discount) to schools until Aug. 31, the latest in a string of aggressive promotions ahead of a refresh that could be announced at the upcoming BUILD conference.  [View news story]
MSFT really must reduce the price of Surface Pro tablet from about $ 1000 to at least $ 500 in order to compete with light weight Window 8 laptops.

  • 8 Billion-Dollar Mistakes Microsoft Made That Killed Windows 8 And Led To Windows 8.1  [View article]
In the software business, whenever a system is deemed stable, release of revisions will be named the same by appending ".1, .2, etc.). Revisions usually involve error corrections and some addition of functions. With millions lines of codes, there will be errors. Window Blue is just a code name. At the time of release, it is then called Window 8.1. There is nothing negative about it. Also any Window 7 user really does not need any training because we can always find the needed function in Window 8. I think there are just too many negative comments and bashing of Microsoft while I am laughing to the bank.

  • Microsoft Seems On The Verge Of Something Ugly  [View article]
People focus too much on Window 8 alone. MSFT is much more than just Window 8. Moreover, adoption of a new OS upgrade is always slow because of the learning curve on the part of the user and cost to corporation. It will take time. I love Window 8. I took me a couple days to figure out enough for my daily use. Instead of shorting, one may want to long on MSFT.

  • The European Commission has fined Microsoft (MSFT) €561M for taking too long to fulfill its commitment to a 2009 settlement to provide consumers with a choice of Internet browsers in its Windows OS. The penalty brings total EU fines for Microsoft over the past decade to €2.26B. Google (GOOG), which is under an EU investigation for possible abuse of its search dominance, may well be watching with interest. (PR[View news story]
