  • Gold bull only "wounded" says Ned Davis  [View news story]
If you knew your historic data of (real) interest rates well, you should know there is hardly any correlation with gold.

  • Gold And Silver Might Bounce On Selling Exhaustion  [View article]
If you look at the ETF charts over a longer period, say 5 years or more, one can see that the 'paper' stock of gold is still very high. As long as this is the case, there is in my view no real oversold situation in the gold market.

  • Ignore The Doom And Gloom And Buy Gold  [View article]
It would not be the first time in history that mines stay closed for many years because production prices are to high compared to market prices. So the actual situation is certainly no fundamental reason to buy gold.
Increasing yields are also not positive for gold as it does not generate an income but only a cost (financing and storage). This is one of the major reasons why call options have remained relatively expensive despite price collapses.
At the moment I only see a small positive in a possible temporary technical rebound, but as we know even technicals have no crystal ball..

  • The carnage in gold mining stocks is not over, Jefferies says as it cuts ratings for Barrick Gold (ABX), Goldcorp (GG), Kinross Gold (KGC) and Newmont Mining (NEM) by one notch each: "With short reserve lives, rising costs, rising political risks and a stagnant commodity price... an argument could be made that gold equities should trade at valuation discounts to other resource equities. Instead, they continue to garner valuation premiums."  [View news story]
Most commentators here seem to have a crystal ball where they see prices go up. If most people are sure of a direction, beware..
If another industry has the same problems as the gold industry, valuations fall and everybody agrees. Here it doesn't (yet) as sentiments still play to big a part.

  • Silver Wheaton Corp.: A Big Long-Term Investment Opportunity  [View article]
All very interesting, but what if silver prices remain at lower prices for a prolonged time? Some miners might go bust, due to expensive production costs. The consequences for SLW could be dramatic

  • The King Of The Royalty And Streaming Companies  [View article]
SLW certainly looks one of the better silver/gold stocks.
However, as so often, only positive elements have been put forward. What if demand in these commodities goes down (while production goes up)? What if gold/silver prices keep coming down, as if to foresee in a still deflationary environment? What if producing companies go bust? Never think this is impossible, just look at history. Oh, and don't forget the creeping carry-cost as interest rates are slowly going up

  • McEwen Mining (MUX) cuts its 2016 production view to 225K gold equivalent oz. from 290K, which it says could reduce capex requirements to the point where "cash reserves and cash flow from operations could be sufficient to fund the majority of revised production growth."  [View news story]
As was predictable, lower ( more realistic) gold prices are hitting the miners. MUX is just one of many
