  • Retirement Strategy: Did You Freak This Week? [View article]
Prepped for a potential panic selloff on Sunday night. After researching the issues all weekend and sensing extreme fear, set up 15 low-ball limit orders from my stock wish list. That night watched the special on CNBC "Markets in Turmoil," and after that, went back into Etrade and adjusted most of the orders down another 5-7%. Expected to hit 2 or 3 and have great stocks at great prices if things got really bad.

Monday morning, entered my account while the crash was in progress and within a couple minutes, 14/15 orders had executed seemingly simultaneously. I was shocked. Missed #15 on GOOG by a nickle ($565.00 bid) which added to my disbelief of what had just occurred. Within hours, every new position was quite green. I am not bragging, but now advising all my investing friends and family to be prepared for the next 'flash crash.' Because so long as nothing changes on the electronic/algorithmic... front, this will happen again. Be ready when it does!

    Here is the amazing bounty from my Sunday night prep;

    FB- $75.64
    SPWR- $18.60
    GILD - $97.30
    T - $32.00
    MAIN- $26.85
    TCPC- $14.25
    GOOD - $14.00
    CSCO- $24.81
    KMI- $29.60
    MO- $49.00
    PM- $77.51
    AMBA- $83.90
    FEYE - $31.61
    HACK- $25.00

  • The Stock Market Speaks - We Learn Irrationality Isn't Always Associated With 'Exuberance' And 'Euphoria' [View article]
Well done sir! Excellent analysis of the current market. This is actually the most complete analysis I have read on the situation causing unrest and high levels of unpredictability in the market. I see your overall assessment as spot on.

I'll be forwarding this one to my friends and family. Thanks!

  • Facebook first: 1B people use it in a single day, Zuckerberg says [View news story]
What was the value of the internet to the US and Europe in 1995? That's basically where FB drone internet will be in the emerging markets planned to be served. A new frontier and MANY people who have never had internet before. So just stop and think about that for a minute. Growth potential off the charts I think, even if it takes them time to figure out the path to the big profits.

Something tells me the company has done some planning on this. You think so too? They didn't just decide to build internet drones for nothing! Time will tell on cost vs rewards.

No estimate on Oculus from me. But Ill make this bet right now. Between the headsets, peripherals, and software, I think its more than you can imagine.

Not trying to convince you to invest. You will see your mistake in a few short years if you don't. But I do respect skepticism, on any potential investment.

Good luck. Long FB with conviction, GOOG too.

  • AT&T: How Small Efforts Can Aggregate Into Large Results [View article]
I understand Pendragon, but then using a low or no cost brokerage is imperative to the plan's proposed returns and needs to be addressed. The type of investor that is going to attempt this plan at a major brokerage will not get close to the returns presented here.

I just want to protect young investors from making a mistake thinking they will be OK using this plan anywhere BUT a discount brokerage. And then I guess hope that they are still a business when you finally want to take out the funds 30 or 40 years from now.

My main issue is the plan presented doesn't address the impact of fees on the total return as they otherwise will yield results much lower than presented here. If it were my article, I would amend it with some words on the fee dilemma and the available discount/no fee brokerage options.

Long T, dividends for life, and smart investing are the ticket.

  • Facebook first: 1B people use it in a single day, Zuckerberg says [View news story]
    Tex,

The drones will attempt to double user base focusing on emerging markets - where they are basically stuck back in 1995 in relation to current US internet access penetration. Increased ad revenue is very likely, but I won't pretend to know what Zuck may have up his sleeves.

Oculus is a product that every gamer in the world has seemingly been waiting for. My nephew (age 11) has told me repeatedly that it is all his friends talk about and he is asking all relatives to get him gift cards for two of the VR headsets ASAP. So I anticipate that demand will be very strong and a great catalyst for the stock all next year. Microsoft partnership makes me very bullish on the execution.

I'm also anticipating to see how FB will benefit from software based revenue sharing, as I am sure they won't be letting MSFT run with that entire pie -no way. So I think it is possibly much more than even just a VR hardware play.

  • How Many Healthcare REITs Should You Own? [View article]
Brad, thanks for your continued coverage on REIT's. I have a couple on my buy list thanks in part to your writing and wanted to know if you may be anticipating lower prices with the rate hike pending.

I'm looking to start positions specifically in O and OHI. Your educated guess on the 30-day over/under would be helpful. Or maybe just throw me a bone on your Fox Business appearance today. I'll be watching - Good luck and thanks!

  • Facebook first: 1B people use it in a single day, Zuckerberg says [View news story]
    Why?

Because of video play ads coming to the news feed, because of the pending monetization of Instagram, because the introduction of Oculus Rift VR to Xbox market Q1 2016, because of the trend in ad spending away from cable and into social media, because once you build a billion+ user base, monetization is the easier part, because of internet purveying drones offering internet access to another billion people in emerging markets, because FB is the largest and most accurate target marketing platform the world has ever known.

Because, well, if ya still don't get it, then just watch and you most certainly will in a few short years.

    Long FB...no doubt about it.

  • Is The Nightmare Over For Tech ETFs Post Market Crash? [View article]
"Nightmare" is definitely a matter of perspective. I had low-ball limit orders set for HACK, FEYE, GOOG and FB, among several others I put on my dream buy list. To my absolute shock, 12/13 hit simultaneously Monday morning representing what may have been the buying opportunity of my life.

So for investors who prepared for the worst Sunday night as the intense fear built up over the weekend, it was much more of a dream than a nightmare.

I encourage everyone to keep those lowball limit orders set! You never know when we will get another flash crash and we can all reap the rewards!

  • Sprint offers year of free service to DirecTV switchers [View news story]
gv, I have two friends on Sprint in Illinois and they have had unreliable texting there- texts not being received and just disappearing into thin air. I can't even imagine being on a network where I had to wonder if my texts are even being received.

That was 6 months ago, so it is possible that the problem has been fixed. But after witnessing the disappearing texts and their disdain for Sprint, I would never go there. But good to know they have at least one happy customer! ;)

Sprint should focus on why their texts don't go through so often. Terrible service dependability but hey, maybe if they give it away some people will bite.

  • Realty Income Is A Dividend Growth Investor's Dream Stock [View article]
O held up incredibly well compared to so many other quality companies that flash crashed Monday. I hit 12/14 extremely low set limit orders I placed Sunday night. I missed GOOG by just .05. But with O, my bid came nowhere even close!

That tells me that the stock has excellent support from a committed shareholder base. Compare O's drop to that of say, JNJ (uber safe defensive,) and it becomes clear that O is not held by weak hands, to say the least.

    Great company, great stock.

  • AT&T: How Small Efforts Can Aggregate Into Large Results [View article]
Commissions would affect the overall return greatly. At $7.99/trade, a $100 -3 share purchase chops away 8% every buy. It is not advisable to spend more that 1% in fees when building positions.

That said, I support the general strategy, but would recommend buying 25 shares twice a year instead. That would plug the leak in this proposed plan.

  • The Fragile State Of Affairs Part 1 - Data Security [View article]
I think cyber security is going to see amazing growth over the next 5 years. We most certainly now live in a data driven world, and the future is very bright for the companies that are rising up to protect it.

I'm taking stakes in a few of the best of breed CS companies to hold onto tight, and building a nice position in HACK to cover all the bases. Thanks for the article!

    Long FEYE, FTNT, HACK.

  • 8point3 gains on Raymond James upgrade [View news story]
Will, the company states that at IPO ($21/share) that the yield anticipated is 4.2% or roughly .84 annually. With the falling pps and no dividends issued or officially announced yet beyond the IPO info, we will have to wait a bit and see.

I for one have put some trust in CAFD and its parents to manage the yieldco's growth responsibly. I'm building my position whenever the stock dips below $15.20 for an anticipated yield of 5.5%.
