Stress Testing Your Dividend Portfolio [View article]
Regarding your comment: "Most clients at SIPC insured brokers will be able to get back up to $500,000 in assets or $250,000 in cash in case their broker fails. "
Can you please clarify if this $500k/$250k limitation is per broker, or per account? If I have several separate accounts with the same broker, is each account covered separately, or not? My account is with Merrill Lynch..do you know anything about their coverage?

There is a big problem with all this.
The more people that use DGI investing, the less and less it will work. That is how the marketplace works. It is supply and demand. As demand goes up...prices for the stocks will go up and the dividend yields will go down...down...downnnnn... At some point, the price increases will exceed the dividend increases and it simply will not work. Then , maybe, you will see another group of people espousing non dividend stocks...

Doug, I have a question regarding your CDx3 preferred stock picking method.
What do you do if you buy a preferred stock that meets all 10 prerequisites when you buy it...BUT THEN, after you buy it, it gets down graded to junk status by Moody's? This happened several times to me when I bought these preferreds a couple/few years ago after reading your book. I believe Bank of America preferreds were some of these..but there were others. I saw no referrence to this in your book.
You will see that AWP's yield..is has alot of roc (return of capital) in it, and...the UNII is negative..not a good thing and suggestive of near future dividend decreases.

I just bought a bunch of rso-pa. It is not rated by s&p or Moody's. Coupon yields 8.5% and it ts slightly under 25$ par. It is also cumulative and was recently released.

I am not complaining about the topic of your articles..I am complaining about their location. As for the number of 'complaints'..my guess is that most don't respond one way or the other. I just sent SA a suggestion to create a separate subcategory for these...just like they have separate subcategories for reits, retirement, and bond...in the dividends & income section. I feel that this is logical.
My Long-Term, Enhanced Investing-For-Income Strategy - A New Twist [View article]
Also..perhaps SA can make a subcategory , then, in the dividends/income section...for options strategies. They already have a subsection for bonds, reits, retirement, etc...what about options?
My Long-Term, Enhanced Investing-For-Income Strategy - A New Twist [View article]
OK then..can you please put the word options in your titles then? I print alot of these out to read at my local coffee shop and it is a waste of paper and ink (for me) to print options related stuff out since I don't use it...and don't want to have to read the article to find out it is about options before I print it out..since my intent is to read it at the coffee shop. Thanks.

"The reality, in fact, is that when times are not tough, accepting lower yields for perceived safety is a waste, and, worse, when times get panicky, everything sells off briskly in fear, so the safety is illusory."
Problem is...I would NOT consider the present a good time. These are not good times. For example..I read in the paper today that the Federal mail deliverer cannot make payments to the treasury for pensions...(in other words...bankrupt..though that word wasn't used).

I just did a search on preferreds..requiring: 1. It be cumulative, nonconvertible and nonadjustable 2. It sell for at or below par 3. It be investment grade
Believe it or not, this is all I came up with:

As you can see, most are callable at any time. There are only 2 that are recent issues and which have awhile to be called: KIM-PJ, and VNO-PK.
Both yield below 6%...and trade just slightly below par. I bought some of both today because there is nothing else and 5.75% or whatever, beats .01% in the bank.
Both are REIT preferreds. Interestingly, VNO-PK has the word TRUST preferred in its name..but since it is a little below par, and a reit isn't a bank, I bought it.
