i think what Outsider22 wrote is spot on. IMHO, the profit made from the cloud will not only be the ease in consumer service, like that example, but also consumer retention. many users will be loath to switch to HTC/Droid/Lumia/etc once they have put so much into the iCloud, including $$ spent on apps.

great article, awesome discussion. polarizing or not, i enjoy and learn a lot from the comments. an investor can indeed buy partial shares of AAPL on Sharebuilder, no minimum required, so i think that the 'let the small guy in' argument is a little moot. On the other hand, as someone who plans on being long AAPL for a few years, i think i would welcome the volatilty and panic that might come from the post split 'novice' crowd that overreacts to an article or an 'average' earnings report. I would just consider it an opportunity to add to my position.
