  • Which Is Better: Cap-Weighting Or Equal-Weighting? [View article]
gastro4 - The size factor bias is equally important to the rebalancing. Factor tilt investing (i.e., tilting a portfolio to any one or more factors such as size, momentum, quality, volatility, etc) is beginning to trend significantly among large institutional investors who have discovered that active management (or picking stocks for yourself) is not the way to achieve ones investment objectives.

  • Which Is Better: Cap-Weighting Or Equal-Weighting? [View article]
The equal-weight approach incorporates a "factor" tilt, in this case a tilt towards smaller cap stocks versus the cap-weighted benchmark. Over time this tilt has historically resulted in a performance advantage. The other characteristic of an equal-weight approach that never seems to get enough attention is the regular rebalancing that takes place, selling the relative "winners" and buying the relative "losers". This "sell high, buy low" regimen is the exact opposite of what occurs in a cap-weighted approach (i.e., buying more of what's been appreciating, and selling what's been underperforming) and actually explains more of the relative performance advantage of an equal-weight approach than does the size factor tilt. An equal-weight approach does for an investor what they inherently don't want to do but should be.

Quick, can anyone name the last time Barclay's got a stock call right? Like all money managers, they flip a coin. You'll never see any follow-up from them on this one-time call, right or wrong.

    2) Bush cuts taxes for ALL TAXPAYERS
    3) Under Bush we eliminate Iraq as a terriost threat, win the war in Iraq. Obama walks away from our new mideast partner, and can't get out of his own way in Afghanistan.
4)Agree with you on this one--poor decision (that libs were giddy about)
    5) Really?? "ALL" regulation? More lib hyperbole
    6) what does that mean? Cheerleader?
7)One man caused the financial crises? Well then Bush is the most powerful man ever to walk the earth (except for Jesus who godless democrats don't believe in)
