  • Apple: This Was The Week I Was Waiting For (Part 3) [View article]
Do some searching here on SA for strategies to invest in "LEAPs". One thing to note though is that Outsider22 is talking about contracts that have a price x100. So "$700 Jan 15 calls are $136" means the cost of the contract is $1,360.

If you're just starting be prepared to lose money, but as long as you learn from the experience you will probably come out ahead in the long run.

  • Many iPhone/iPad users aren't happy with Apple's (AAPL) new Maps app, which displaces Google Maps (GOOG) with today's iOS 6 launch. The loss of Street View and public transit data is frustrating many, as are the search results. Even Apple die-hard John Gruber is a critic. The discontent is unlikely to convince Apple to have a change of heart, but it could drive many users to opt for Google's home-grown iOS Maps release (likely to feature ads) when it arrives ... provided Apple doesn't block it. "it's useful to see the area, where you could be mugged-- to get in and out as quickly as possible "

Sam, was that a joke? If so that's funny.

  • Time Warner Cable's (TWC) COO says his company is comfortable "giving up control of the [user] interface" for hardware using its services, a comment that could be a green light for a deal with Apple (AAPL). However, he adds TWC wants to control the customer relationship while doing so - would that rule out Apple Store sales? Bloomberg recently reported Apple is "furthest along" in its set-top box talks with Time Warner. If/when it arrives, Apple's box could feature a novel cloud-based DVR. (WSJ report[View news story]
Time Warner Cable's (TWC) COO says his company is comfortable "giving up control of the [user] interface"

That's hilarious. Until a month ago my TWC settop box had the same crappy interface it did in 2000. They only JUST changed it do a black color scheme instead of the blue and yellow.

  • Apple (AAPL) will ask Judge Koh to impose treble damages (over $3B) on Samsung (SSNLF.PK) in response to last month's huge jury win, "legal sources" (Samsung lawyers?) tell the Korea Times. A hearing regarding Apple's request could took place on Friday - Judge Koh has proven willing to grant many of Apple's requests before, during, and after the trial. [View news story]
Cut the "right to free choice" crap. Is it my "right to free choice" to walk into your house and steal your TV? If I did, would it be someone else's "right to free choice" to buy that from me as stolen property?

I will feel so sorry for you jblau if mean ol'judge Koh keeps you from buying your knock-off smart phone. Maybe you should head down to the flea market for some knock off purses or knock off Nikes to make yourself feel better.

They hate Apple. It's not a logical opinion, it's their religion. Treble damages is a common outcome when the judge, who heard the same trial as the jury, agrees and wants to send a message, but to them it's simply a reminder that their beliefs are false.

"Obviously Iphone had some penetration of recent in corporate world as many companies enabled employees switch - those haven't in 5 years likely won't moving forward."

Sir, I don't know where you get your information, but this is simply not true, it was only in the last year, as Rimm imploded, that midsized companies like mine began considering the iPhone. Even now, they are still phasing it in while handing out blackberries like candy to deplete stocks.

  • Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 were above 2M over the first 24 hours, Apple (AAPL) announces. That's twice what Apple recorded for the iPhone 4S, and also well above the 1.3M-1.5M the ever-bullish Brian White was initially predicting. Shares +0.8%. (PR) (previous[View news story]
My GOD! When will the smartphone size race that only droid users seem to give a sh*t about end?

  • "We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response" to the iPhone 5, says an Apple (AAPL +1.2%) spokeswoman. The strong early demand has already been enough for two of Apple's biggest sell-side fans to sing its praises again. Topeka's Brian White now thinks his projections for 10M-12M FQ4 iPhone 5 sales could be conservative. Piper's Gene Munster predicts the phone's feel and build will take consumers by surprise, and notes its social media buzz has been very strong. [View news story]

  • Noting U.S. smartphone sales growth has slowed dramatically, and that many first-time buyers are now prepaid users who often go for low-end Android (GOOG) devices, NPD's Stephen Baker questions whether the next iPhone will lead to major U.S. share gains. Working in Apple's (AAPL) favor: the iPhone's customer loyalty is unmatched, and it has been gaining share in the U.S. even as its European share has declined. [View news story]
"None of my droid counterparts would even consider switching to an outdated apple phone, even if it is brand new. "

You are a smaller subset of the population than you think you are. The "sheep" as you put it, are the majority of people out there who like something shiny and new and couldn't care less about the "RAZR"

  • Adam Cheyer, an Apple (AAPL) engineer who played a key role in developing its Siri voice-assistant software, has left the company, sources tell Bloomberg. Cheyer's departure comes a year after Dag Kittlaus, who was CEO of Siri before Apple bought the startup in 2010, did the same. Tim Cook promised Apple would "double down" on Siri, which has been a lightning rod for debate, earlier this year. iOS 6 will bring enhancements and iPad support for Siri. [View news story]
"Thanks for all your hardwork in building Siri from the ground up, here's your golden parachute. We'll take it from here."

Not really a surprise. Startup guys thrive on starting stuff up, not working for the largest (market cap) company in the world.

  • "Come on. This is farce," says tech legal site Groklaw, incredulous Apple-Samsung jurors took only 21 hours to deliberate over a 700-question form one lawyer says would take him 3 days to understand. Groklaw is also unimpressed with contradictory statements from jurors, several verdict inconsistencies, and the fact jurors reached a decision without reading a 109-page instruction form (.pdf). Some lawyers are predicting this case will reach the Supreme Court, due to the issues it raises about UI and design patents. (more[View news story]
    Dialectical,

I'm right with you Skippy09, and as a programmer too. I can't understand the people who are saying this will hurt innovation, though they seem to be non technical types who just hate Apple anyway.

  • Understanding Why I Was So Wrong About Apple [View article]
I would like to thank Ashraf for a good article and for his humility. Also I would like to thank JasonC, Ronin, Dialectical, and others for a master class on weather AAPL is or isn't a bubble. It's this discourse that keeps me coming back to SA.

  • 45% of U.S. consumers eligible to upgrade their phones over the next 3 months intend to buy an iPhone (AAPL), according to a Baird survey of 2K U.S. Web users. 31% are undecided, and just 22% are set on buying an Android (GOOG) phone.
