If you compare CET to the S&P doing 1 year, 5 year, 10 year and maximum charts (and it looks as if CET has less of a distribution than the S&P) CET comes out as the loser. In the short term it has done better.

Better check out whether or not a CEF with a large discount also has a large use of leverage. A large leverage could spell serious problems ahead for a CEF.

Thanks for sharing your analysis. I did a 10-year chart using Google Finance to compare NAT and the S&P. NAT was up 161.58% and S&P was up 16.25%, dividends not included.

I missed what the yield is on DBN, except that is supposed to be better than 30 year US bonds (4.4%). I would be interested in seeing a comparison of DBN with BCF and GGN, which are CEFs.
I would appreciate reading an evaluation and comparison of the four CEFs FEN, FMO, KYN and TYG which all invest in energy MLPs. They have a similar yields, but their returns and discounts vary a good deal. Tom Jewett
