'Twas The Days Before Christmas

by: The Financial Lexicon

'Twas the days before Christmas in 2012
The Fiscal Cliff was approaching, the Mayans as well.
Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock was in freefall, the Utilities (NYSEARCA:XLU) too,
Investors getting long Xanax and a case of the blues.

"Buy the dip," "Sell the rip," gyrations galore,
Wrapping up ultra-low interest rates for year number four.
We're still dealing with Europe, Band-Aids à la mode,
And getting really darn good at kicking cans down the road.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear?
On TV, a politician says a deal is quite near.
The stock market rallies to investors' delight,
Until another politician says that no deal is in sight.

And so it continues, day after day,
While high-frequency traders, they play and they play.
Trading headlines and rumors, long-term investors abhor,
This isn't your Grandfather's market anymore.

LTRO, OMT, from the ol' ECB,
QE 1, 2, and 3, TMI, OMG.
Hedge funds buying up delta and looking for beta,
I'm still a little more comfortable just selling theta.

Investors turning to bonds and heading to REITs,
Finding adequate yields has been quite a feat.
Central banks buying Gold (NYSEARCA:GLD); silver (NYSEARCA:SLV) holding up well,
Those "barbarous relics" have sure cast a spell.

Now Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), Now Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG),
On Kimberly-Clark (NYSE:KMB), and the soup they call Campbell (NYSE:CPB).
Raise your dividends soon, raise your dividends more,
Or you'll hear the dividend investor's dividend roar.

There's no rest for the weary in stock market land,
But Seeking Alpha can help lend a stock market hand.
Email alerts, SA Pro, and the Editors' Picks,
Will help keep you abreast of the stock market's tricks.

Now let me repeat what I mentioned last year,
Because amidst all the gloominess, we could all use some cheer.

Good luck in the era in which uncertainty reigns,
Good luck getting income and capital gains.
Thank you for reading, I wish you the best,
And hope markets will make it through all of this stress.

I don't know what 2013 has in store,
Whether bull market or bear market, peace time or war.
But I hope that for you, things will turn out alright,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
