12 injured, 53 rescued in gondola prang

Fresh off its recent brush with corrupt New York attorney Marc Dreier in the offices of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, Wes Edens’ Fortress Investment Group (NYSE:FIG) had probably had its fill of Canadian adventures. The fates determined otherwise.

But FIG also mostly dodged another embarrassment in Canada Tuesday afternoon, when a wreck on the gondola system serving Whistler Blackcomb — alpine skiing venue of the 2010 Olympics — injured 12, none seriously, while 53 people had to be rescued. Whistler Blackcomb is operated by Intrawest, the FIG-controlled resort operator that itself recently survived an encounter with a $1.7 billion debt mogul.

How much more good luck can Wes really stand?
