Deloitte has issued a ranking of the top 250 consumer products companies by sales, and it’s no surprise that electronic product companies are prominently featured. Samsung edged out Hewlett Packard (NYSE:HPQ) for the top spot, and both companies showed strong double digit growth. Interestingly, both the biggest gainer and the biggest loser in the top 20 were tobacco-related companies. Sixth place Altria (NYSE:MO) lost more than 27% in sales, while 12th place Japan Tobacco surged 34%. As the figures are for the 2007 financial year, it will be interesting to see how the rankings change as the impact of the recession works its way through.
