'Green Is Good' for Your Portfolio

Gordon Gekko was almost right. But it’s not greed that is good when it comes to growing your portfolio value. It’s green, as the graph below highlights. The heatmap identifies S&P stock and sector performance year to date. The best performing assets are in green. The losing stocks are in red. The bigger the loss or profit, the brighter the shade. Winning the hearts and minds of investors in 2009 are technology stocks, with financials - despite the recent rally - still mostly in the red. As for General Electric (NYSE:GE), the mother and father of all conglomerates, Ouch! It has proven only to be a diversified weapon of wealth destruction.
