Cramer's Lightning Round - Verizon is Boring. So What? (10/9/09)

by: Miriam Metzinger

Stocks discussed on the lightning round session of Jim Cramer's Mad Money TV Program, Friday October 9.

Verizon (NYSE:VZ): "It pays you a good yield while you wait for Ivan Siedenburg [CEO] and the earnings to come through. I'm not backing away from Verizon. It is boring but, you know what? Making money doesn't have to be exciting. We try to make it exciting, but sometimes boring works!"

Agnico Eagle Mines (NYSE:AEM): "We think gold's going higher... this is the cheapest big-cap gold company. They're making a lot of money with gold at north of $1000 (an ounce). I cannot say you should sell it."

BP (NYSE:BP): "I think BP is now cheaper than Chevron... I own them both... I would be a buyer of BP, with that 6% yield, right here, right now."

Metlife (NYSE:MET), Aflac (NYSE:AFL)

American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP): "It's a 5% yield, but I'm concerned about that... a company that has a lot of coal-based plants... sell, sell, sell... in the year 2010, next year... is not what anyone will want to be in."

Royal Bank of Scotland (NYSE:RBS): "Yes, it's too risky! There are so many others that I like in that group... sell, sell, sell... that I'm not going to countenance buying RBS... They've really stubbed their toe; they've done a lot of wrong things."

MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR): "No, no, no, no... Sell, sell, sell... The company just can't get its act together, and the numbers have been cut. You, my friend, are staying away from that one."

Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL):" I don't like Hecla Mining."

Phoeniz Cos (NYSE:PNX): "That one's too risky for me. I'm staying away."
