Third Point Reinsurance: Tax-Efficient Structure And Superior Management

Third Point Reinsurance (NYSE:TPRE) is a newly public reinsurance firm that brings together underwriting expertise under expert insurance manager John Berger and investment management under the well known Dan Loeb. Together the two men make for a potent leadership team which combined with the tax efficient structure of the TPRE vehicle make the stock a strong buy with up to 30% upside versus likely downside of no more than 10%.

The key points behind my view of TPRE as a great investment play are as follows:

1.) Dan Loeb's hedge fund Third Point LP, has historically returned 21% over time, so investment outperformance for TPRE internal investments is likely.
