China Telecom to enter mobile market?

China Telecom (ticker: CHA) has proposed to Chinese regulators that it be allowed to join with China Netcom (ticker: CN), the second largest fixed-line operator, to buy one of China Unicom's (ticker: CHU) two mobile networks. This would give Telecom and Netcom access to the faster-growing market for mobile services, and free Unicom from operating two networks based on different technologies.
