Apple Discusses Pricing for Hard Drives, Flash Memory and LCD Panels

by: David Jackson

Excerpt from Apple's earnings conference call; CFO Peter Oppenheimer and COO Tim Cook are answering questions from analysts; this particular question is material for investors in disk drive manufacturers Maxtor (MXO), Western Digital (NYSE:WDC) and Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:STX), flash manufacturers Sandisk (SNDK), Lexar (LEXR) and Spansion (SPSN), and flat panel manufacturers AU Optronics (NYSE:AUO) and LG Philips LCD Co. Ltd. (NYSE:LPL):

David Bailey - Goldman Sachs
Two short questions, please. ...Just a follow-up, the component environment has been very favorable the past few quarters, can you give us your outlook on the remainder of the year for your component prices?

Tim Cook

David, in the notebook hard drive area, we expect that since supply exceeds demand in this area, there'll be favorable pricing. For DRAM, NAND Flash, and LCD panels, demand exceeds supply due to the usual seasonal demands. We expect other commodities to decline consistent with historical trends.
