Revenue Surges 33 Percent

PCLN ChartThe online travel site posted fourth-quarter net income that doubled to $1.55 a share from $0.75 EPS a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, PCLN earned $1.99 a share as revenue rose 33 percent to $541.8 million. Shares are trading higher on our Heat Seeker system by more than $13 to $226.

HP Draws Tepid Trading

The computer giant posted profit of $0.96 for its fiscal first quarter, up from $0.75 in the year-ago quarter. Revenue was $31.2 billion compared with $28.8 billion. The results exceeded analysts estimates, but HPQ is up just $0.25 this morning after closing yesterday at $50.12.

WellCare Down Sharply

The managed-care services provider swung to a fourth-quarter profit of $0.26 from a loss of $0.75 a year ago while revenue rose 1.4 percent to $1.62 billion, but adjusted earnings for the latest quarter declined to $0.47 a share from $0.66 EPS. The bad news is that Medicaid premium rate hikes failed to keep up with medical costs, so WCG is down more than $4 on our Depth Charge program to $27.80.
