On Dec. 21, 2012, I put $16 Million imaginary dollars in equal imaginary investments in 16 real energy companies; $8.0 Mil in the Sustainable Energy space and $8.0 Mil in the fossil fuel space.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 30.16 % from 12/21/12.
The S&P 500 is up 39.3% from 12/21/12.
The Fossil Fuel Portfolio continues to dramatically underperform the reference indices. It is up 18.36% from Dec. 21, 2012 and down 5.67% from July, 2014.
- The Sustainable Energy portfolio is up 229.19% from Dec. 21, 2012.
The Sustainable Energy portfolio is composed of Cree (NASDAQ:CREE) and Lighting Sciences (OTCPK:LSCG) in the LED space, GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT), First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) and Sunpower (NASDAQ:SPWR) in the solar space, Vestas (OTCPK:VWDRY), a wind company, Solazyme (SYZM) a biofuel company and Next Era (NYSE:NEE), a utility. The fossil fuel companies are the oil companies (NYSE:BP), Chevron Texaco (NYSE:CVX), Conoco Phillips (NYSE:COP), Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) and RD Shell (NYSE:RDS.A), the coal company Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU), and Haliburton (NYSE:HAL) and Transocean Ltd (NYSE:RIG), companies in the offshore oil and oil and gas drilling service industries. The Sustainable Energy portfolio does not include Tesla and Solar City.
