Mobile application development is a multi billion dollar business in which application software is developed for hand held devices like enterprise digital assistants, personal digital assistants, and-- of course-- mobile phones. These apps are later pre installed on mobile phones during the manufacturing process or later downloaded by customers from various mobile software distribution platforms.
A company that has been in headlines recently is Amwest Imaging Inc. [AMWI.OB] due to its announcement of Ziplick software completion. The Zipclik application software will be available mainly for Blackberry users, owned by Research In Motion (RIMM). Its 32 million users can now utilize the 256 AES key encryption service to have private messaging, VOIP communication, encrypted phone calls and file transfers. "This additional roughly $3.2 billion potential new target customer again validates Amwest's purchase and further development of the Zipclick technology", stated by Chief Exectuive Officer, Jason Gerteisen.
It also strengthens its core when both the recipient and sender are using Zipclick, which exponentially decreases the chance of breaking the password. It is also noteworthy to mention that the software can be used for Skype, owned by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Yahoo (YHOO), AIM, and other instant messaging and VOIP softwares.
Another interesting company that sparked investor interest was Commtouch Software Ltd. (CTCH). This cyber security small cap recently announced its efforts to support mobile operators to comply with the newly proposed Web content regulation. Its main goal is simple: to protect children from adult content on the web. Other countries such as Austria, U.K., and Ireland, are also on board in promoting the legislation to protect children from adult content and other data that might be unsuitable for minors. With the increased usage of cell phones, adult material is easily accessible by minors and it is quickly becoming a problem that governments are attempting to tackle.
CTCH's PE Ratio is above average for the Software and Programming industry, and investors are still willing to pay a premium for this stock. In the past year, earnings growth has outpaced its historical five year growth rate. Company reported Q3 earnings of $0.07 on 11/2/2011 with in line analyst expectations. Commtouch also beat last year's results by 16.7%.
