After about a year as chief procurement officer, Nortel (NT) has shifted John Haydon to vice-president and general manager, network partner solutions within the global services business.
Haydon’s successor is Jeff Townley, who will relocate to China and be responsible for all of Nortel’s supplier relationships and annual purchases. Townley has been with Nortel for 24 years, mostly recently has leader of the business transformation strategic procurement team.
Also, according to Economic Times , India’s Reliance Communications is close to awarding a $1-billion GSM/CDMA wireless contract to Huawei Technologies - beating out competitive bids from Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and Nortel.
In January, Reliance said it would spend $2.5-billion to expand its network to cover to all Indian towns with a population of over 1,000 by the fiscal year end.
