News Flash: No New ETFs This Week

In the past 12 months, 228 exchange traded funds (ETFs) were listed for trading in the United States. So many have been issued that when none come out in a week, it’s news. IndexUniverse.com notes in its ETF Weekly: “Incredibly, there were no new listings this week. This is just the second week in six months without any listings.”

The 228 new ETFs, all listed in this week's ETF Weekly, have gathered $18.3 (U.S.) billion in assets to date. The top five are (commodity and short-selling ETFs):

- iShares Silver Trust (NYSEARCA:SLV) $1.8 billion
- ProShares UltraShort QQQ (NYSEARCA:QID) $1.5 billion
- iPath Dow Jones-AIG Commodity (NYSEARCA:DJP) $1.4 billion
- United States Oil Fund (NYSEARCA:USO) $811 million
- ProShares UltraShort S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SDS) $680 million
