Where's the Momentum? Gold. (ETFs: GLD, IAU)

Of the 50 or so ETFs I track, only two were able to show a gain last week, writes Nick Perry, who covers ETFs for Schaeffer's Investment Research. And both of those were related to the same thing - gold. The rest of the "best performing" groups made their way onto the list by keeping their losses in check, at less than two percent. Take a look:

etf week

At the bottom of the list we find some of the oil- and energy-related groups, which of course leaves me with a bit of egg on my face after last week's column-ending statement - "it seems that this is not the sort of attitudes you see at a peak." In my defense, the year-to-date returns below show that these groups have had strong run-ups so some volatility is to be expected.
