Below is a comparison of iShares Japan's (ticker: EWJ) holdings since the last available information, August 31st. Companies with actively traded ADRs that The Japan Stock Blog covers are noted.

Comments: Key changes in the top-10 involved the financial institutions, with Mizuho moving up to the 3rd spot and Sumitomo Mitsui moving up to the 6th spot. Also, Sony moved ahead of Matsushita Electric. Since August and basically throughout this entire year there has been a large influx of foreign investment capital into the Japanese stock market. Banks are increasingly sought after as they have produced consistent positive news concerning their consolidation, restructuring, handling of non-performing loans, and in anticipation of rising interest rates. The yen rate has become a concern in the past two weeks as the yen has weakened against the dollar. But a weaker yen will benefit exporters such as Sony, Canon, and Matsushita, not to mention the auto manufacturers Toyota and Honda. Sony may have been considered a value play because of its announced intent to restructure, which caused its stock price to fall. Due to the growing foreign interest in investing in Japan, the iShares Japan fund has noticably increased its share holdings of all the companies in the top-10 listed above.
