Assets invested in Smart Beta equity ETFs/ETPs listed globally increased by a record US$134 billion during the first 10 months of 2017.

Assets invested in ETFs and ETPs grew by US$134 billion year-to-date, the largest absolute annual increase on record; eclipsing the previous record increase of US$114 billion for the whole of 2013.

Year-to-date, through end of October 2017, Smart Beta equity ETFs and ETPs listed globally saw net inflows of US$59.7 billion.

ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that assets invested in Smart Beta equity ETFs/ETPs listed globally increased by a record $134 billion during the first 10 months of 2017, to reach a new high of $662 billion at the end of October. (All dollar values are in USD unless otherwise noted).

According to ETFGI's October 2017 Smart Beta equity ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in ETFs and ETPs grew by $134 billion year-to-date, the largest absolute annual increase on record; eclipsing the previous record increase of $114 billion for the whole of 2013.

Year-to-date, through end of October 2017, Smart Beta equity ETFs and ETPs listed globally saw net inflows of $59.7 billion; 53.0% more than net inflows for the same period during 2016, and 6.0% more than net inflows for the whole of 2016. October 2017 also marked the 20th consecutive month of net inflows into Smart Beta equity ETFs/ETPs, with $5.94 billion gathered during the month.

The top 20 ETFs/ETPs account for 49.0% of global assets. The largest ETF, the Vanguard Value ETF (NYSEARCA:VTV), on its own accounts for 5.2% of assets.
