Introduction
As we know content is the main driver of a streaming services' success. Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) has started building a huge collection of originals, which is starting to pay off. In this article, I will discuss Netflix's valuable catalog of series and films, and discuss its future.
Content king
In the streaming landscape, it is not hard to determine which streaming service has the best content. The streaming service with the most minutes spent per household, in theory, has the best content. And so Netflix is the content king at this very moment, households spend a lot of time on its platform to watch series and films.

While Netflix is the content king they do not necessarily produce the most popular series and films. Actually, in July 2020, Disney's (DIS) Hamilton was by a long-shot the most popular film or series viewable on a video streaming platform. Think about this: 8.7% of all time spent on streaming platforms was used to watch Hamilton. It is a film of 2 hours and 40 minutes, while the most popular series Grey's Anatomy attained 6.1% of all time spent on streaming platforms, yet, this series takes 15 days to watch. Clearly, Hamilton is a huge success.
In July 2020 there were zero Netflix Originals amongst the most-watched films and series on video streaming platforms. Although during June seven of the ten most-watched films and series were Netflix Originals.
Yet, the success of Netflix's catalog is not depended on one or two blockbuster hits, actually, the success of Netflix's catalog is due to its depth of high-quality films and series. Netflix's catalog is diverse and well thought out. Everyone will find some high-quality series or film they will like, but no one will like all the series or films on the platform.
