Political Comments

This is the forum for daily political discussion on Seeking Alpha. A new version is published every market day.

Please don't leave political comments on other articles or posts on the site.

The comments below are not regulated with the same rigor as the rest of the site, and this is an 'enter at your own risk' area as discussion can get very heated. If you can't stand the heat... you know what they say...

The one guideline we do still require strict adherence to is refraining from personal attacks on fellow commenters. Regardless of which side of the political divide you find yourself, please be courteous and don't direct abuse at other users.

Sen. Lee (GOP-Utah) seemed awfully concerned that the FBI might be using some kind of tracking of people who attended the Jan 6 rally peacefully or not. He said we have to be careful not to violate their rights. I know that Senators on the left are concerned about the same thing possibly happening to those involved with BLM or other groups working for causes they support. Can we all agree that those enabling perpetrators of violence or engaging in same need to be tracked and arrested and that and that those not so engaged should be left alone? This should not be an issue raised for political points.

@Entropy4Free Wow, the Trumpists must be so, so tired of winning.
The US Supreme Court has to decide whether they will allow voting rights to be violated or taken away from people. Lets see where these judges just appointed by DJTrump will stand on this very American strong democratic values. We will see if this US Supreme will support voting by everyone regardless of your race or color or find some obscure legal argument to extend the voting rights eradication to people of color. Blood will surely start boiling if these judges are reactionary. Time will tell how corrupt these judges will be and support what Trumpism has been pushing for years and like he tried to squash the 2020 election vote results.

Your definition of corruption is very amusing.
@techy46 Their actions will speak louder than words, we will wait and see what they say on the issue of voting rights. Impeachment should apply also to US Supreme Court Judges that issue opinions to support extreme right views that cost society unintended results that were meant to mitigated.

Oh come on, liberal US Supreme Court judges expanded the 14th to illegals.

The 14th Amendment was never intended to grant benefits to illegals.
What is it with this 25 year old teflon guy that became incapacitated in a car accident, he claims he was left for dead by his best friend which turns out to be false which even his parents refute that part of the story this young man is Madison Cawthorn. He sounds and acts like his idol the ex-president, cheater towards Melania while she was pregnant, DJTrump, Madison has been telling his biography that doesn't tie in with the facts. He finished just one semester in college getting mostly Ds and hasn't any meaningful life changing economic experience. He might be desperate to run as representative to keep his salary and benefits to support his medical conditions as he is on a wheel chair now. There was a petition signed with 150,000 students that called him on being a sexual harasser and somehow he managed to win his nomination to Congress.

Listening to Trump CPAC highlights tonight just reaffirms for me how appropriate the decision was for twitter boot him and his vindictive and caustic tweets from their platform.

Opinions vary (this one's mine).

You're entitled just like he is.
Josh Hawley is at again. He is now objecting to all the nominees of Joe Biden's cabinet. He is considering one candidate at a time for what is good for Missouri, how about considering whether you are a quality candidate to be sitting as a Senator.

From what you have shown people so far along with your friend Ted Cruz you need to resign that post because you don't know what the hell you are doing in government just like your idol DJTrump.

He ruined the country and turned it into hell on earth and you are one of his disciples that has failed the teachings of your education by being a political hack for Trump just to try to get to the presidency at all costs.

Josh Hawley resign now you have no business in judging other qualified people if they are fit for their positions. By the looks and substance of Joe Biden's nominees you and your idol, ex-president haven't got a clue what competent people are that's why you can't see your lack of judgment, in that sense you are a failure to Missouri and I don't know how you got elected and are still in that seat in the Senate. Anywhere else you would be in jail for inciting an insurrection.
The Spirit of Jane Goodall lives.
La Goya CEO, if you could believe was saying that DJTrump is still the current president, at the CPAC convention. A CEO of a corporation making a statement of delusional wanna be events that have no reality makes you wonder how incompetent this guy is and whether he's there only because he's from that family and arisen to the top just because of that reason. This guy would be fired on the spot if he was the CEO of any top 500 public corporations. What a joke he is making of his company and all of his family.
it was a good day i only temporarily had to take out the AK.
i tried to memorize them before i left i know i missed some.

Why didn't Trump let his base know he and Melania got vaccinated in January?
GreenEggs&Ham profile picture
@Scootrd Because he is a master of deception. The greatest con-man
in history.
Am I the only one to notice when people who don’t follow the party line (like Sinsema & Manchin) aren’t castigated, called names like DINO, censured or have their leadership positions threatened. Isn’t this how democracy is supposed to work? When will this philosophy go across the political spectrum? Can’t be soon enough.

Up North -

State prosecutors in Manhattan who are investigating former President Donald J. Trump and his family business are sharpening their focus on the company’s long-serving chief financial officer....Weisselberg (73 years old) has served as the Trump Organization’s financial gatekeeper for more than two decades.

Any bets how long it will take Weisselberg to flip? 5...4...3...2...

Down South -

Fulton County prosecutors are expected to appear before a grand jury this week seeking subpoenas for documents and witnesses related to their investigation of former President Donald Trump and some of his top associates for possible election fraud.

“If there were a textbook example of how to commit criminal election fraud, this would be it,” - Atlanta attorney David Walbert

Willis has indicated she’ll also examine a call between Raffensperger and Trump ally U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; the unusual removal of BJ Pak as U.S. attorney; and false claims made by Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani during a hearing before the Georgia Senate Judiciary Committee.

Georgia State University law professor Clark Cunningham believes Willis has the makings of a “pretty compelling narrative of a conspiracy” that sought to prevent state electors from casting their votes for Biden.

"Former President Donald Trump is selling — for $49 million — a beachfront house next door to Mar-a-Lago’s Beach Club in Palm Beach. Trump is associated with the limited liability company that owns the house at 1125 S. Ocean Blvd., records show."

"The house will be sold with a gratis membership to The Mar-a-Lago Club, a perk available to residents of Woodbridge Road, the street immediately north of the club."

If you do not accept the membership to Mar-a-Lago the price is $59 million. The Mar-a-Lago club really needs new members. sarcasm

Something is happening here but what it is ain't exactly clear. Rising interest rates are the result of an explosion of spending by federal governments, led by the US, to back up the explosion of money printing and lending by central banks, and increasing optimism about virus vaccines and economic recovery. The new leaders of the world's top central banks are betting major growth will come without commensurate inflation. The old guard is not so sure.

@Namron Damron

Nothing new, it's been going on since 2008, CD rates topped out at 3%.

That's because rates don't affect CPI much anymore for several reasons.

1) The excess money goes to top 50% that save more then bottom.
2) Automation and robotics have created excess capacity in consumables.
3) China's a huge force in supplyting Amazon, Walmart and others.

However, FED's balance sheet is bulging with $8-10T projected 2022.

How would a 20% market correction play out for Joe's strategy?

Charlie Munger 5 days ago at American Journal Corporation annual meeting in Los Angeles when asked what his thoughts about SPAC's.

And I direct quote -
"The investment banking profession will sell shit as long as shit can be sold.” - Charlie Munger.

Charlie, I agree.
Henry Miles profile picture

I recall Charlie saying such things about GameStop, to which I agree. However, we have done exceedingly well on three SPAC's: DNMR, LAZR, and MP, all are real companies of the kind in which Charlie & Warren invest.
