Summary

  • The purpose of this article is to highlight recent trades made in the Taxable, Roth, and Traditional IRAs of my clients, John and Jane.
  • We purchased a lot of shares in October while the market tanked. November's improvement has resulted in just a few trades.
  • We tend to make purchases in small tranches and then sell in small tranches. We buy and sell shares to secure lower cost positions and rebalance between sectors when needed.
  • Limit trades have been used more on the sell side in recent months as we plan for when positions need to be trimmed.
  • November was a much more tame month when it comes to trades, now that the market has moved higher.

The month of October was a tumultuous one with a lot of trades taking place. In fact, several readers pointed out that it seemed a little excessive. I think it's important to remember that during times of volatility
