Trimble: An Expensive Deal

Dec. 14, 2022 1:35 PM ETTrimble Inc. (TRMB) Stock2 Comments

Summary

  • Trimble has seen a tough 2022 so far amidst softer performance and dollar strength.
  • I like the long-term performance and positioning of the business, even as 2022 has been tougher.
  • The company ended the year with an expensive deal, making me cautious here, albeit that the share price reaction feels like an overreaction.

Great piece. Wondering however what your thoughts on the long-term view is. Totally agree this is expensive in the short-medium term and probably could have acquired at a better price. However, as a momentum play into one of the world's largest economic areas and married together with a telematics portfolio in EU; I can't help but think this could be an indirect driver of value in the longer term - if the company gets it right. Trimble has tried to enter the EU previously, they have modest to lackluster performance of their telematics suits and their field service application they acquired in the Nordics added very little. Will Transporeon be a deal large enough to get momentum going?

@kevernscott Bought very small here at $50, looking to average down.
