Worrisome natural gas production

Jun. 07, 2005 10:13 PM ET

With approximately 30% of the natural gas produced in the United States coming from the state of Texas, a need to look at the numbers becomes imperative. The Railroad Commission of Texas maintains a very good website with a great amount of data.

According to their statistics natural gas production averaged 12.2 mmcf/d in 1Q20005. This is 7.3% lower than the average daily amount posted in 1Q2004.

While activity has increased; the wells that have been coming on line are less prolific.

I have added a chart that shows what could be the start of a very intriguing trend.
