Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) this morning said that sales of Halo 3 topped $300 million in the first week, which the company says makes it “the fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.”
That seems a tad exaggerated; according to Amazon’s IMDB.com, 171 movies have generated worldwide ticket sales of more than $300 million. (Tops on that list is Titantic with $1.8 billion in box office.) Nonetheless, $300 million in a week certainly is impressive.
Perhaps more interesting, however, is this: the company said that since the game debuted, retailers are reporting that Xbox 360 console sales “have more than doubled” from the weekly average before the game launched.
Microsoft today is up 15 cents at $29.60.
