Business is Mixed at Cheesecake Factory (CAKE) Locations, Survey Says
Cheesecake Factory Inc., the restaurant chain, has a new Asian restaurant opening, but analysts still fret about the parent company's sagging stock price, declining profit and falling sales at its established restaurants.
Tickermine consulted 25 locations and asked respondents how long their customers wait, what is the most popular menu item, how often is cheesecake actually ordered, the average check for a party of two and has this location been busier this month?
Most respondents said their customers are waiting between 15 to 30 minutes (12 respondents or 48% of those polled). 10 respondents or 40% said the waits were less than 10 minutes, four respondents or 16% said their wait time was 45 to 60 minutes, and one respondent or 4% of those polled said customers can wait as long as one hour 30 minutes. Cheesecakes and the Factory Burger were both cited as the most popular menu item by five respondents or 20% of those polled. The Chinese Chicken Salad as well, the Orange Chicken were cited by two respondents or 8% of those interviewed, and varying items were cited by 4% of respondents each. Respondents said that cheesecake constitutes about 65% of their orders and the average bill for a party of two is $45. And contrary to analyst pessimism, business is brisk at Cheesecake Factory locations this month. While 12 respondents or 48% of those interviewed said business was slower, 13 respondents or 52% said that business was definitely up.
The Rib Eye Steak is the Most Popular Menu Item at Western Sizzlin (WEST) Restaurants
Western Sizzlin restaurants, owned by Western Sizzlin Corp., and known for its steaks, salad bars and buffets, were profiled by Tickermine this month. The company's first quarter 2008 results were not good, reporting that it lost money, despite higher sales.
Our surveyors consulted 24 locations around the country and asked whether lunch or dinner was busiest, what the most popular menu items were and how long do their customers wait?
19 respondents or 79% reported that dinner attracted more customers over lunch, which was the choice for five respondents or 21% of those polled. 10 respondents or 42% of those interviewed said that the average party of two spends between $25-$30 at their restaurant. Nine respondents or 38% of those polled said the average bill is $35-$45 for two and five respondents or 21% said the bill is typically $47-$60. The Rib eye steak was cited as the most popular menu item by 15 respondents (this was 63% of the poll). Five respondents or 21% said their most popular item was the chopped Sirloin and four respondents or 17% stated their customers pick was the flamekist Angus steak. At Western Sizzlin restaurants most customers wait between five to 15 minutes, our poll says (12 respondents or 50%). Seven respondents or 29% reported wait times of less than 5 minutes and five respondents or 21% of those interviewed said their customers wait between 25 to 30 minutes before being seated
