Although I have many certifications in transportation engineering (PhD, PTOE, PE); In regards to investing, I have no professional training or certifications. After spending 15 years focusing on my career, I could no longer ignore the numbers. The truth became apparent that IRA/401K/mutual funds that were sold to me by “experts” were not going to achieve my financial goals. I vowed to educate myself. Over the last decade, as a part time investor, I studied anything I could (books, seminars, testing strategies with historic data, buying lots of lunches to pick the brains of more successful investors). I have a somewhat unique perspective for analyzing investments because of 1) my work in university research on transportation engineering, 2) my outsider’s perspective, and 3) my focus on how investments are going to pay my bills. I consistently make double digit returns in real estate investing. I have done short and medium term option trades where I quintupled my investment; I have also done trades where I lost the entire initial investment. I continue to learn, study, analyze and try different strategies.
