I was educated as a social historian, and I focus on finding unique ways to gain insight into companies and industries through research beyond balance sheets. I work as a professional audio engineer in the entertainment industry, and get to meet people from all sorts of professions, which often sparks ideas for research.
When I am researching a stock, For example, If its a toy or clothing company, I talk to my kids and see what kids at their school play with. I read forums. I read employee reviews of working for the company. This process reduces the noise about a stock for me that prevalent online and on investing focused websites.
As has been said by many great investors, lots of reading and having quiet time to think are important tools in the investing process.
I'm currently a Psychiatry resident in Houston, Tx. I previously worked as a petroleum analyst in Dallas. I keep an eye on value, macro, and special situations. I read a ton of investment books, and I really like the approaches of those like Peter Lynch, Joel Greenblatt, Warren Buffett. I like to combine macro and value when I can.
