I have been investing in stocks for 25 years. I developed and maintain buyupside.com (http://www.buyupside.com/), a free Web site about stocks and the stock market. The site includes hundreds of original articles and charts written for individual investors. Popular topics include dividends, dividend reinvesting, retirement planning and investing, chart patterns and sample portfolios. I developed the Price Direction Indicator (PDI), a technical analysis tool designed to help spot price tops and bottoms. And I am the co-author of two investing books, Buy on the Upside and Eat Your Spinach: Spend Less and Invest More. From 1993 to 1999 I made my living trading stocks. That experience taught me to buy at the right price (avoid buying stocks on the price downside and at peak prices). Also, I learned the importance or understanding chart patterns. While I was executing short-term trades to pay my bills, I setup a long-term portfolio of high-quality, dividend-paying stocks that would be the foundation of my retirement nest egg.
