Balanced, expert investing strategies from a technologist's perspective
Technology is an everchanging field, and these days it's changing faster than ever.
To invest in the space is to have the opportunity for great long-term growth stories that will increase your returns and build your portfolio faster than most other sectors. It's also to risk putting it all down on Betamax, buggy whips, or the Palm pilot and losing everything you've invested. Tech is exciting that way, and it's not always best to invest when you're excited.
One way to help is to have another perspective. That's what I try to offer with Rethink Technology. My goal isn't to be a guru that tells members what to do. It's to offer my perspective from decades of experience, including my background as an iOS developer and an electrical engineer.
We focus on a few key themes in Rethink Technology:
The aim of course is to pick winners and have successful investments. But I also aim to provide that balanced perspective that can make it easier for you to make your own decisions in a tough sector. I aim to be transparent in my approach and to give full reasoning for any of my calls, positive or negative. I'm glad to see reviews like this that have come in:
The service has been a successful one so far, with satisfying performance and a growing community of tech investors. I am planning to add more material and ideas to Rethink Technology every year. So now is a great time to join.

Mark does a great job of covering the technical details of his areas of interest as well as linking those details to market valuations. My portfolio clearly shows the impact of his work. His service is well worth the money.
Hi Mark
I truly benefit from your insights...keep up the consistent flow and updates.
You may not know but I reside/work in Toronto and with RBC Wealth,...which is the brokerage side.
One item that may be of interest to you is our Capital Markets Group out of NY produced a great piece entitled Imagine 2025,,,all about technology and overlaps some of your themes. Worthy to review and would be curious to get your views. Can email it to you or can get it directly from our group in NY, if you have a contact there.. Thanks and Happy Holiday!
I am the rare older, technically proficient finance professional. I began my career writing financial software as a mainframe computer programmer. I am also a ten year investor in Apple.
Many investment writers focus on the standard financial performance and ratios for evaluating tech companies. With tech companies, I really want to understand the technology, business model and competitive landscape that drives the cash flow stream. Mark helps me understand the hardware which is not my specialty. I recognized a paradigm shift with Apple many years ago when my wife, a non technical consumer, purchased a Mac at the Apple Store without my assistance. Based upon Mark's recommendations and observations, NVidia appears to be a paradigm shifting company as well. The ability to communicate directly with Mark is of great value. Having my own hardware engineer who works in the industry and understands investment analysis is rare and valuable. The value added far outweighs the cost.
Rethink Technology is a very knowledgeable resource and is uniquely able to explain complex technology in terms that investors can use to make appropriate investing decisions. Forward-looking opinions are clearly laid out and free of the bias that is so prevalent in investment research today.
I've been reading Mark's articles for a few years now and I find his insight extremely valuable. Unlike many stock analysts writing about tech companies, he clearly has deep understanding of the technologies that he writes about (for example, semiconductors and computing, lasers). He's an excellent critical thinker and his analyses are objective, thoughtful, and thorough. I personally like his investment style also -- he focuses on identifying and investing in companies with technological advantages over their competitors and proven management and doesn't bother with getting wrapped up in short-term trading strategies. I've learned so much from Mark and am so thankful to know I have him in my corner on Rethink Technology. Thanks Mark.
I would recommend Rethink Technology. Mark has been very helpful in sorting out the truth and helping ignore the hype. Through his research the facts he presents for the Rethink Technology Portfolio have kept me long on stocks I would have other wise shorted and made much less money.
Mark's service is the first one that I picked from Seeking Alpha. I think it is also the best! His picks have made me more money than any other newsletter I have ever paid for. One in particular, NVDA. I got in at 31 and now it is 240!
Mark's analogy is very thoughtful and to the point. I have confidence in his picks. I will be a long time subscriber of his service.
Excellent resource. Would recommend it to anyone with an interest in emerging technology trends.
Mark is thorough. He continuously provides updates on portfolio companies. He is available to answer any queries that one might have. What I have enjoyed is the detailed explanation from a technical as well as financial standpoint. Have made money on his recommendations and look forward to reading his articles/posts.
I've followed Mark on Seeking Alpha for several years now - first for his commentary and analysis of Apple, and subsequently his perspective on an expanding list of technology companies. Mark's approach, which combines fundamental analysis with deep understanding of engineering and technology, has been incredibly effective for my portfolio and consistently resulted in returns far in excess of the industry and market. Rethink Technology is a five star service, I highly recommend Rethink Technology to anyone considering investing in tech companies today.
I highly recommend Rethink Technology’s observations/recommendations as they are clearly presented to non-technology savvy investors as myself, Importantly, Mark also invests in what he preaches and succinctly explains his investment rationale as well.
Mark Hibben speaks with the voice of authority. He cuts through all the noise out there and provides clearly stated opinions grounded in his extensive tech world knowledge and experience. Highly recommended.
Mark's grasp of technology is first rate. I use the posts to verify assessments of tech companies.
Always well balanced, thoughtful and knowledgable input from Mark. A must read for every chip technology investor.
I like his deep dive into technical issues which provide me with valuable background for my own investment decisions.
He has been Spot-On with NVIDIA and his analysis of the competition by AMD was also right and helped me to avoid to build a position which may have been to large in AMD.
Mark gives me levelheaded, well thought out advice. i appreciate his long term view . His analysis of hardware and software issues relating to specific companies provides easily understood information that helps me make investment decisions. Judd
I have been a Seeking Alpha reader for a long time and Mark is the one contributor that I have come to trust completely. He is level-headed, competent, does his research, and sticks to his area of expertise. I have had nothing but success in investing in the stocks Mark has recommended. Plus, as a long time Apple investor(and admittedly highly exposed due to the number of shares I own), he keeps me posted on their progress and helps me sleep at night. Make sure you seek out some of his live interviews. You will see someone clearly honest, intelligent, and the perfect combination of geeky fascination with tech innovation and business savvy.
Mark's technical insights are really quite good and most helpful when trying to understand what a "situation" really is. I also agree with his projections more often than not. I am a multi-year subscriber and was following him on Seeking Alpha long before he started the Rethink Technology service. Recommended it is.
I have sampled a lot of different analysts on Seeking Alpha. Unequivocally, the soundest advice comes from Mark Hibben. The analysis is thought out and logical, un-hyped, consistent and reliable. Mark clearly has the benefit of a working knowledge of technology in general and a specific understanding of the technology of the companies he follows. From my own experience can see he has a good grip on business and investing. I have never given a five star rating on anything. Mark came close
