Sprint (NYSE:S), Telecom Italia (NYSE:TI), and others have joined the ranks of carriers supporting Mozilla's Firefox OS (formerly called Boot 2 Gecko) Telefonica (NYSE:TEF) and Deutsche Telekom (OTCQX:DTEGY) are already on board, and China's ZTE and TCL say they'll release Firefox phones running on Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon processors in Q1 2013. SA's Dana Blankenhorn thinks the carriers are motivated by the possibility of having an open-source OS they can fully control.
