Two days before the start of CES, Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has launched: 1) Its Tegra 4 processor. As rumored, it has 4 CPU cores and 72 GPU cores - Nvidia claims it's more powerful than the 4th-gen iPad's A6X chip (the mobile gold standard). The Tegra 4 also supports advanced image-processing features, such as the rendering of video in HDR mode. 2) The i500, Nvidia's first 4G baseband chip. Nvidia boasts the i500 has a die size 60% smaller than a conventional baseband, and can be reconfigured to support different signal-processing algorithms. An integrated baseband/Tegra solution, which would more directly compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon line, is reportedly due in 2H.
