Carlos Slim's Armerica Movil (NYSE:AMX) is looking to acquire the 40% of wireline subsidiary Telmex (NYSE:TMX) that it doesn't already own, for $8.8B. Like many wireline carriers around the world, Telmex's voice business has struggled to deal with competition from mobile and voice-over-IP services.
