Wilbur Ross Talks About His New Investments-Gurufocus

|Includes: Assured Guaranty Ltd. (AGO), IRE

Distressed investor Wilbur Ross is one of the truly great contrarian investors and in this interview he gives his insight in marine transport, shale gas, among other topics. Ross also has large investments in the bond insurer Assured Guaranty (NYSE:AGO) and Bank of Ireland (NYSE:IRE). He looks at investments from a much longer perspective than most market participants as he won't hesitate to hold a position for over 5 years if necessary. This type of long term investment strategy is similar to what we employ at T&T Capital Management but the primary difference is that we will sell options to generate income, reduce risk, and to instill an element of timing when we believe it is favorable to do so. This is our way of performing a "workout" strategy and we see it as a form of time arbitrage. The premise of the strategy is that the worst thing that can happen is we will own a stock we want to own at a more favorable price than what could have been obtained at the time, or we end up selling a stock that we are willing to sell at a price that is more favorable that what could have been obtained at the time. When we end up owning stocks which is regularly we are willing to hold them for at least 3-5 years if not longer as we don't try and predict short term market movements.
