The iPhone 5c has finally sold out on the Apple (AAPL) US Store after five days. All variants of iPhone 5c are now being shipped with 3 to 5 days delay. In the past the sell out of pre-order of iPhones used to happen within few hours on the Apple online store. For those of you trying to get the iPhone 5c on 9/20, don't loose heart as it is available on the carrier stores at the time of writing this article.

Three guesses here:

1) Apple has manufactured large number of iPhone 5c compared to previous iPhone launches.

2) The demand for iPhone 5c is poorer than previous launches of iPhones.

3) People are waiting for iPhone 5s.

I am going for the first guess. With margins on iPhone 5c being much higher than iPhone 5s, Apple would have preferred to manufacture a large quantity of iPhone 5s. Higher margin because iPhone 5 components should be cheaper and plastic backing would be easier to manufacture. iPhone 5s has additional new parts and sells only $100 more than a comparable iPhone 5c model.

I am now looking forward for the launch of new iPads. The A7 chip with the 64-bit architecture in an iPad would definitely kill the laptop world.

Disclosure: I am long AAPL.
