About two hours ago a Tesla Model S sedan caught fire after reportedly hitting a metal object in the roadway. It appears the object struck the undercarriage of the vehicle, where the battery pack is located, and caused the pack to burst into flames. Fortunately the on board monitoring system alerted the driver of the situation and prompted him to pull over. The fire was contained exterior to the cabin, but it was necessary for the on scene fire department to extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, there are no serious injuries reported.
