As a pre-IPO investors in Facebook, I have developed a very high level of interest in any high quality pre-IPO investment opportunities.
It's not easy to get pre-IPO shares of quality companies anymore unless you have several thousands to invest. For the average investor, investing in companies/funds that buy pre-IPO shares seems like the best bet.
I have noticed a couple publicly traded companies investing in pre-IPO opportunities.
GSC capital (NASDAQ:GSVC) and Firsthand Technology Fund (NASDAQ:SVVC) are the most popular ones. The thing that bothers me is despite the success of some of the tech IPOs, these stocks have performed very poorly.
Here are the links to holdings of GSV and SVVC:
Now there is a new kid on the block: Sharespost 100. This is more like a mutual fund that invests in pre-IPO opportunities. Here is a link:
It looks exciting but after looking at the performance of GSVC and SVVC, I am not too comfortable investing in any fund that buys pre-IPO companies.
I would love reader opinions on which of these names stand a chance to profit in the long run. Are there any other options for pre-IPO investors?
Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.
