Counting/Paying Needs To Begin Now

Comment (11.07AM) on Making future cliffs count, Matt Miller, Washington Post, Jan 3, 2013

Many of the ingenious propositions mentioned here and elsewhere are based on suppositions: One- that even if the political leadership cannot make rational decisions now, the self-imposed sequesters will retain their power when due (there is little historic precedence for that) and, Two- and most importantly, all the proactive, positive, and constructive propositions assume that the economy will pick up in not too distant future in order to pay for all of that. The possibility still exists, however, that this may not be soon enough (Japan is still spinning its wheels after 20+ years).

We need to pay as we go, anything less is just an illusion (some of them may be quite narcotizing, though).
