The Real Macro View... Is our civilization sustainable?

As a longtime land developer, I am very interested in the thought process of the readers of Seeking Alpha, as it relates to financial investment pertaining to sustainability of our civilization. Given the well documented history of all previous civilizations rising and falling, what is the end game strategy of intelligent investors, relative to avoiding past mistakes that lead to collapse of society?
