Viking Systems Inc. develops, manufactures and markets 2D and 3D visualization solutions for complex, minimally invasive surgeries. The company has established partnerships with medical device companies and healthcare facilities to provide surgeons with visualization technologies that enable minimally invasive surgical procedures.

The company is running the European launch of its 3DHD Surgical Vision System this week in Rome at the 112th National Congress of Italian Surgery Society, and has reported positive feedback of its 3DHD Vision System from congress attendees.

Jed Kennedy, president and CEO of Viking, noted basic advantages of the advancement from 2D vision to 3D vision.

“Nearly all laparoscopic procedures are currently performed with a 2D camera,” Kennedy stated. “We plan to provide the surgeon with high quality 3D vision in a cost effective and flexible format. Performing complex minimally invasive procedures with a 3D vision system has the potential not only to improve the quality of care but also to reduce procedure time and therefore cost of procedures.”

Viking plans on continuing its product launch over the next two months in Europe by presenting its 3DHD system at the 83rd Congresso Nazilonale Societa Italiana di Urologia in Milan, Italy, from October 17-20; AUSTROTRANSPLANT 2010 in Villach, Austria, from October 27-29; the 28th Congreso Nacional de Cirugia in Madrid, Spain, from November 8-11; and in Paris, France, at the 104th Congres Francais d’Urologie from November 17-20.

The company will also team up with American Surgical, its distribution partner for the southeastern United States, to present the new 3DHD vision system in Las Vegas, NV, at the Global Congress of Minimally Invasive Gynecology from November 8-12, 2010.

“Attendance at the country level congresses is important in making surgeons, administrators and government officials aware that our technology is available from and supported by distributors that have long standing relationships with their hospitals. Additionally, the fact that our distributors are willing to invest in these prestigious clinical congresses in order to generate sales leads for the coming year further demonstrates their commitment to our products,” Kennedy stated in the press release.

Viking Systems said it plans to begin distribution of demonstration systems in the fourth quarter of 2010.
