Yesterday, A.D.A.M., Inc. announced that they will be unveiling their new search tool, the A.D.A.M. Health Navigator, at the Annual Healthcare Internet Conference in Las Vegas during November 15-17.

A.D.A.M., a provider of consumer health information and technology to healthcare organizations, is introducing a new search system that combines 3-D design with their database of health information. The system will use 3-D avatars and A.D.A.M.’s database of articles to provide faster, more intuitive searches for information. Consumers can search through topics such as symptoms, injuries, self care, diseases, medical tests and surgeries, as well as selected areas of the body. The system can be searched by specific topics and keywords.

Multimedia search results will contain text from relevant A.D.A.M. health articles, as well as video, medical imagery and illustrated presentations.

The service will allow hospitals and healthcare websites to offer an intuitive search experience, aided by 3-D avatars that users will be able to customize with four ethnicities: Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American and Asian. This interface will allow healthcare providers to connect users to doctors and other services, and will also be able to tailor the experience to their target audience.

Demonstrations of the new system will be held at the A.D.A.M. booth in the Conference’s exhibit hall.

“The A.D.A.M. Health Navigator is the latest in a long line of visually engaging applications that help consumers make better decisions about their health,” said Mark Adams, president and chief executive officer of A.D.A.M. “As consumers become more participative in managing their health, they will need engaging and interactive tools to help them find the information to better understand their conditions and to help them quickly and easily find appropriate healthcare resources that can meet their needs.”

“Our goal was to create a product that can set A.D.A.M. client websites apart from other online health information sites by allowing them to not only provide relevant, trusted health information but to go a step further to connect consumers to care,” said Rick Leach, senior vice president and general manager of A.D.A.M. Health Solutions. “The new A.D.A.M. Health Navigator utilizes the latest technologies to provide a more realistic rendering of the human body, more robust search results, and multiple ways to connect to healthcare services and providers. This product highlights our commitment to helping consumers find health information online that doesn’t leave them at a dead end.”
