Vuzix Corp. (VUZI.OB) Bringing Next Generation Eyewear to Market This Spring

Televisions received a great deal of publicity throughout this last holiday season as the competition continues to rise and new technology is constantly evolving to bring bigger screens with crystal clear pictures to average consumers. One thing is definite, for most people, the bigger the better. The problem is that when you leave the house, the television stays there too. Vuzix Corp. is bringing the next generation of video eyewear to the mainstream population in the Spring of 2011 as the solution.

Vuzix Corp. trades on both the Toronto Venture Exchange (TSX-V:VZX) and the OTC Bulletin Boards (OTCBB:VUZI) and has offices in Rochester, NY, Oxford, UK and Tokyo, Japan. The Company has been the recipient of nine different Consumer Electronics Show Innovations Awards, the RetailVision Best New Product and several wireless technology innovation awards, among others. In the second quarter of this year, Vuzix will be rolling out its newest product, the widescreen Wrap 1200, which will provide its users with the widescreen television experience without the TV.

This is Vuzix’ first high-resolution video eyewear model in a native 16:9 format and offers full color WVGA (852 x 480) support with component video inputs. The video eyewear provides a viewing experience similar to a 75-inch flat panel television viewed from 10-feet, the world’s first high-resolution 16:9 widescreen video eyewear. The audio is listened to via earbuds that are attached to the glasses. In addition to the revolutionary screen, Vuzix seems to have covered all the bases with these unique glasses as they may be worn over many prescription eyeglasses and have adjustable IPD (eye-separation) and nose bridge to facilitate maximum comfort even during extended use.

Viewing format is also able to be adjusted, such as either 2D or 3D formats, NTSC or PAL video content and 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. The Wrap 1200 also accommodates video inputs from virtually any video source through composite and component connections, comes with standard cables for connection to an iPhone® or iPad® and can even be connected to a computer through an optional adapter.

In the late 1900’s, it was common to hear comments along the lines of “bringing you to the Twenty-First Century.” While we are there now and still too far away from 2100 to modify the phrase to use with the next century, Vuzix is definitely bringing some cutting edge technology to the world with the Wrap 1200. The video glasses will be on display at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, January 6th to 9th, at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall at Vuzix’s Booth #11740.

While no details were readily available on the cost of the new glasses, previous versions brought to market by Vuzix were scaled in pricing according to features, ranging from approximately $200 to $400.
