Fuel Tech, Inc., a provider of engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems in industrial and utility applications around the world, recently announced the receipt of multiple air pollution control orders equaling $2.3 million.

The largest of the orders, which was placed by a domestic industrial customer, was the award of a NOxOUT® Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) project for a biomass-fired boiler. Fuel Tech’s NoxOUT SNCR process is a post-combustion NOx reducing method that decreased NOx via a controlled injection of reagent into the post-combustion flue gas path. The deliveries for the equipment are currently slated for later this year.

Two orders were accepted for projects in China. The first order, which was placed by a major utility and is an existing customer, was an award for an ULTRA™ system for the retrofit coal-fired unit. Fuel Tech’s ULTRA process offers for a safe and a more cost-effective on-site conversion of urea to be used a reagent for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide, or NOx. This allows for the elimination of the hazards that come with the transportation, storage, and the handling of anhydrous or aqueous ammonia. The deliveries for the equipment are set to be for later this year.

The second order, which was also placed by an existing customer, was comprised of a NOxOUT® Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) project for two municipal solid waste combustion units located in China. The deliveries for the equipment are also scheduled for later this year.

In addition to the aforementioned orders, two CFD modeling orders were accepted in Korea and the southeast U.S. as well as for spare parts orders for a Low NOx Burner project in Indonesia.

Douglas G. Bailey, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “China remains a very active market for Fuel Tech’s technologies and we are pleased to be penetrating this large and fast-growing market. We are especially encouraged by the repeat business we have received from customers in China, as was the case with both of these orders.”
