Medizone International's (MZEI) AsepticSure Ozone-Based Disinfection Technology Wipes Out MRSA In Hospital Rooms In Under An Hour
Medizone International has announced it is utilizing its AsepticSure system at the Quinte Health Care-Belleville General Hospital (QHC) in Ontario, Canada, as part of that hospital's efforts to manage a recent outbreak of MRSA (methicilllin-resistant staphylococcus aureus). This implementation of the AsepticSure system follows Medizone's previous successful disinfection of several patient care rooms at that facility in as little as 40 minutes of treatment time per room.
Dr. Dick Zoutman, chief of staff at QHC, and Dr. Michael Shannon are the co-inventors of AsepticSure. Dr. Shannon is among team members who have been performing disinfection treatments at the facility.
AsepticSure is a new disinfection system that imitates the actions of the human immune system, in which antibodies create ozone and hydrogen peroxide to produce a highly reactive compound called trioxidane, which is toxic to bacteria, viruses, and mold. Trioxidane is temporarily released into sealed hospital rooms to kill all present pathogens; at the end of the process, the room is returned to a clean, safe and residue-free state.
In comparing sampling results before and after the treatment of several contaminated ward rooms, Medizone has confirmed that a 100 percent bacterial kill is achievable without disrupting normal ward activities. These same microbial kill rates have been demonstrated repeatedly in controlled laboratory settings.
Medizone International is presently engaged in the initial production of its modular design AsepticSure Decontamination Systems. With AsepticSure, decontamination to the sterilization standard of >6 log (99.9999 percent) can be obtained within hospitals, airlines, cruise ships, long-term care facilities, food processing plants, clean room manufacturing facilities, schools, and other critical infrastructure.
